T.O.T.S. — Early Childhood Ministry

Our Early Childhood Ministry offers a Christ-centered, nurturing environment where little ones can play, learn about Jesus, sing praises, and grow in their faith. Through our Sunday morning programs and Connection Events, we partner with families to help raise Tiny Ones to Trust the Savior (T.O.T.S.).

Children ages 6 weeks to 5 years are welcome in Room 11 during both worship services and during our DiscipleU Educational Hour.

We love when families worship together — so if you prefer to keep your young children with you and need a quiet space, you're welcome to use our Prayer Chapel or relax in the Narthex, where the service is streamed live.

To ensure every child’s safety, all adult team members are background-checked, fingerprinted, and certified in CPR and First Aid.

WHAT WE ARE TEACHING IN NOVEMBER

Love Roots: Stories of the Old Testament

This fall, our T.O.T.S. friends are continuing their journey through the Old Testament. The series, "Love Roots," traces God’s redemption promise from the tree in the Garden of Eden to the shoot from the stump of Jesse, as foretold in Isaiah’s prophecy of the Messiah!

Along the way, we’ll explore the
10 Commandments  rooting our hearts in love for God and love for others, and delighting in His good design. We'll discover the many pictures of Jesus woven throughout Scripture, while playing our way through God’s epic story!

  • November 2nd: "The Fiery Furnace
  • November 9th: “Really Big Fish”
  • November 16th: “Isaiah Sees”
  • November 23rd: “King Jesus"
  • November 30th: "Angel Visit" (Start of Advent)
  • "Whisper, Whisper - Learning About Church"

📖 A wonderful resource for families with young children

We’re excited to offer a helpful resource: Whisper, Whisper – Learning About Church. This beautifully illustrated book gently walks children through what happens during a worship service and includes Sanctuary Tips and Teaching Moments to support parents along the way.

Pick up a copy from our Family Resource Library or contact Beth Stoffregen for more information. Take it home and read it together—it’s a great way to start meaningful conversations with your little ones about worship and why we do what we do in church!

  • "Did Martin Luther Go on a Diet of Worms?"

📖 A playful resource for families about the Reformation

Who was Martin Luther? Did he go on a Diet of Worms? Leading up to Reformation Day, YFM is offering this resource to our T.O.T.S. families. Follow along with a little bookworm to learn more about one of the greatest reformers of church history. Illustrated in picture book format for young children and written in a playful rhyme scheme, this book summarizes the major life events of Martin Luther from birth to the Diet of Worms, and it highlights the theological truths that he stood strong to defend.

Pick up a copy from our Family Resource Library or contact Beth Stoffregen for more information. This book is a wonderful read-aloud. Take it home and enjoy it together — it’s a great way to start meaningful conversations with your little ones about why we are named Red Hill Lutheran Church, standing up for Biblical truth, and the gift of God's grace through faith that saves us!

Katelyn Der

T.O.T.S. Early Childhood Ministry Coordinator

Katelyn was born and raised in Manteca, CA. She and her husband, Erik, met in college and have been married for four years. In March 2024, Katelyn began serving in the nursery at Red Hill on Sunday mornings. Soon after, she dove headfirst into church life by leading the half-day Preschool VBS program. Then, in July 2024, Katelyn officially joined the Red Hill staff as T.O.T.S. Early Childhood Ministry Coordinator.

A graduate of Concordia University Irvine with degrees in Psychology and Philosophy, as well as seven years working in healthcare for children with special needs, Katelyn loves creating a safe, loving environment for Christ’s littlest disciples and helping to write His rich word of truth on their hearts. She is thankful to be leading the Early Childhood Ministry and looks forward to watching Red Hill’s little ones grow in their knowledge of Christ.

When not serving at Red Hill, Katelyn loves going on hikes and nature walks — anything with wildlife and wildflowers! Katelyn is also a musician who plays in several professional handbell ensembles and sings in the early music consort, Vox Obscura. Katelyn also enjoys talking about movies and literature.

Brie Longoria

T.O.T.S. Early Childhood Ministry Coordinator

Brie was born and raised in Rancho Santa Margarita, CA. She graduated from Azusa Pacific University with a degree in Liberal Studies and a minor in Art. She taught in both public and private schools, teaching Kindergarten through 3rd grade, and stopped to raise her family. Brie has been attending Red Hill Lutheran Church since 2018, has been a VBS leader for the past two years, and is now blessed to be involved in the T.O.T.S. Ministry alongside her 4-year-old daughter, Emily, and newborn Hailey. She is so excited to mold and nurture kids alongside her own little ones.

Brie and her husband, Jeremy, have been married since 2017 and are raising 3 daughters, Taylor, Emily, and Hailey, as well as their three dogs and four chickens. Taylor is away at Texas Tech, and Emily is involved in many activities to keep mom and dad busy while big sister is away. Brie and her family love exploring all California has to offer and seeing it through the eyes of their children. The love of sports, whether it is watching Emily explore various new sports or watching the Cowboys, Ducks, or Dodgers on TV, is a fun way for them to spend time together.

When there is free time, Brie loves to read, cook, garden, and hang out with friends. Although being a homebody family, they also try to get out as much as possible to create new memories.
